Tired Eyes and Crows Feet

Laughing, concentrating, squinting or frowning; whenever you move your face your muscles contract. After years of frequent contractions, combined with environmental and lifestyle factors (UV exposure, smoking and pollution) lines, wrinkles, dark circles and bags begin to form around your eyes, leaving them looking tired. The eyes are often the first place to reveal the signs of ageing, as the skin is thinner and more prone to creasing, pigmentation and puffiness.

What causes tired eyes?

The main cause of lines, wrinkles and dark circles is a due to reduced amounts of collagen and elastin in the skin. These proteins are responsible for our skin’s elasticity and thickness, but production drops as we age. The best way to prevent the appearance of wrinkles, eye bags, dark circles and sunken eyes is to use an SPF to protect your skin from harmful UV rays, avoid smoking, drink plenty of water and follow a good skin care routine and good nights sleep.

How to prevent tired eyes?

By protecting your skin from sun damage is the best form of prevention for ageing skin, wearing good sun protection and keeping your eyes protected from direct sunlight with sunglasses and a large brimmed hat. Also using skincare products designed to soften wrinkles and reduce the signs of ageing can be effective.

Mouth Lines

Nose to mouth lines (nasolabial folds) are deep-set wrinkles which form along the side of the nose and continue downwards to the corner of the mouth.

What causes nose to mouth lines?

Nose to mouth lines deepen over time as the facial skin and supportive structures of the cheeks become weak due to the natural ageing process. Nose to mouth lines are normal and an inevitable sign of ageing skin, however they can cause the face to look tired and old, adding years to the appearance.

How to prevent nose to mouth lines?

The best prevention for ageing skin is to limit UV sun exposure by wearing a good sunblock and a wide-brimmed hat. However, nose to mouth lines (nasolabial folds) are also caused by normal facial muscle movement such as smiling, so there isn’t much else you can do to prevent them occurring.

Thin Lips

There are various methods to plump up your thin lips: surgical and nonsurgical. Both home natural remedies and lip treatments can help achieve thicker lips again. While some people may have naturally thin lips, they can also be a sign of ageing or result from smoking. As you get older the collagen in your lips breaks down and the muscles tire, leaving your lips looking and feeling thinner. This can also lead to wrinkles around the lips.

What causes Thin Lips?

There are many factors that can influence a decrease in the size of your lips, however, the following are the most common:

  • Ageing
  • UV exposure
  • Dehydration
  • Habit of puckering or biting your lips
  • Smoking
  • Genetics

How to prevent Thin Lips

Keeping your lips moisturised with a concentrated cream around the lips that contain active anti-wrinkle ingredients that plump and hydrate the skin.

  • Use lipstick with SPF (Sun Protection Factor) to protect your lips from sun exposure.
  • Exfoliate your lips once a week. Apply a rich lip balm after this to help keep your lips plump and healthy.
